About Port Jefferson.
Port Jefferson is the North Shore harbor village that runs on the Bridgeport ferry and a genuinely walkable downtown. Steep streets of Victorian houses drop to a working harbor, and the compact center packs in restaurants, ice-cream windows, independent shops, and Theatre Three — enough to fill an afternoon without moving the car.
It's at its best on a festival weekend — the Dickens Festival at Christmas, summer concerts at Harborfront Park, the dragon-boat races in the harbor. Any time of year, the play is the same: park up top, walk down to the water, eat, browse, and watch the ferry come and go.
