“A New England clam shack that got lost and stayed in Rockville Centre since 1939. Sit at the counter. Get the clams.”
Bigelow’s has been frying clams in a light, ale-batter New England style at the same U-shaped counter since 1939. There are maybe two dozen stools and no tables to speak of, which is the point.
Order the whole-belly fried clams and a cup of the chowder. Watch them cook it in front of you. It’s one of the oldest continuously-run seafood counters on Long Island, and it has never needed to be anything more than that.
