Dr. Camile Gooden-Bost honored as District 16 Healthcare Hero

Suffolk County Legislator Rebecca Sanin recently recognized Dr. Camile A. Gooden-Bost as District 16’s Healthcare Hero during Suffolk County’s annual Healthcare Hero Recognition Ceremony, celebrating her outstanding commitment to advancing health equity, improving patient outcomes, and expanding access to quality healthcare for Suffolk County families.
“Whether she is caring for patients, mentoring future physicians, advocating for underserved populations, or leading efforts to address healthcare disparities, her work is making a meaningful difference in the lives of Suffolk County residents every day,” said Legislator Sanin.
As a physician, educator, and healthcare leader, Dr. Gooden-Bost has spent more than a decade caring for Suffolk County patients and families while championing initiatives aimed at improving healthcare quality and access. She serves as Physician Advisor at NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk, where she helps lead quality improvement initiatives and co-chairs the hospital’s Health Equity Subcommittee, working to ensure that all residents receive high-quality, equitable care.
Her leadership extends far beyond the hospital. Dr. Gooden-Bost serves as Suffolk District Councilor-at-Large for the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians, where she chairs the Health Equity Task Force, and as Secretary of the Suffolk County Medical Society. She also serves on the Suffolk County Legislature’s Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Task Force, helping bring together healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community organizations to address maternal health disparities and improve outcomes for women and families across Suffolk County.
“Improving health outcomes requires more than excellent medical care—it requires advocacy, education, and a commitment to addressing the barriers that too many families face,” Sanin added. “Dr. Gooden-Bost has dedicated her career to that mission, and our community is stronger because of her leadership.”
Among her many community initiatives, Dr. Gooden-Bost leads the annual “Her Health, Her Story, Her Power” program, which raises awareness about healthcare disparities affecting women and underserved communities while empowering residents through education and access to resources.
