Suffolk County names winner of ‘Be Pool Smart’ pool safety poster contest

Suffolk County Legislator Rebecca Sanin recently announced that Jessa Bruno, a fifth-grade student at Maplewood Intermediate School in District 16, has been named the Countywide Winner of Suffolk County’s “Be Pool Smart” Pool Safety Poster Contest. Jessa’s winning artwork will be used by the Suffolk County Department of Health Services to help promote pool safety awareness throughout the county. Jessa’s winning poster stood out among entries from across Suffolk County, showcasing not only her artistic talent, but also her creativity, dedication, and commitment to promoting an important public safety message. “Every year, our office receives thoughtful and creative submissions from students across District 16, making the selection process incredibly difficult,” said Legislator Sanin. “Jessa’s artwork stood out for its creativity, message, and impact. To see her represent District 16 and ultimately be recognized as the countywide winner is a tremendous source of pride for our entire community.” The annual contest encourages students to promote pool safety awareness through original artwork, helping educate families and communities about the importance of safe practices around water. Legislator Sanin also recognized the important role of those who supported Jessa along the way, including her mother, Tara Bruno, and her art teacher, Ms. Ashlyn Piercey-Gilhooly. “We are proud of the example Jessa has set and grateful that she shared her talents with our community,” Sanin added. “I also want to recognize her mother, Tara, and her art teacher, Ms. Ashlyn Piercey-Gilhooly, for their support and encouragement.” “Congratulations, Jessa, on this well-deserved honor. We look forward to all you will accomplish in the future.”
