Assemblyman Keith P. Brown (R,C-Northport) has secured $60,000 in state funding for peer mentoring programs at Deer Park and Huntington high schools.

The two $30,000 Bullet Aid grants will provide the districts with additional resources for student mentorship, peer support and leadership development. Brown said the programs are designed to strengthen connections among students, encourage positive decision-making and give young people trusted peers and adults they can turn to for guidance.

“Students succeed when they know they are supported, valued and connected to their school community,” Brown said. “I was proud to secure these investments for our school districts’ mentoring programs. These programs help students build confidence, develop leadership skills and form positive relationships that can make a lasting difference both inside and outside the classroom.”

The grants bring the total amount Brown has secured for school district mentoring programs in the Assembly district over the past five years to $180,000 through seven grants.

Mentoring programs give students opportunities to learn from positive role models, support classmates and become more involved in their school communities. Brown said the funding will help schools create environments where students feel supported while developing skills to overcome challenges and take on leadership roles.

“Supporting our students means investing not only in academics, but also in their personal growth and overall well-being,” Brown said. “Mentoring programs give young people the tools and encouragement they need to overcome challenges, make responsible choices and become leaders among their peers.”
