Rell Sunn Surf Contest Returns to Ditch Plains in Montauk July 11

By Dan's Papers June 30, 2026 2 min read

The 28th Annual Rell Sunn Surf Contest Benefit returns to Ditch Plains Beach on July 11. East End residents can grab surf boards for a day of fun competition for all ages.

The competition is a fundraiser with all proceeds from the event and vendors directly benefitting Shred the Love, a non-profit organization that supports local Montauk families in need.

“It’s a great day at the beach to get in the water and spend time with everyone,” Jennifer Cardona, a board member of Shred the Love Montauk, said. “It’s also going to help our neighbors in need.”

This Montauk-based program is open to all ages with admission being $100. In addition to the contest, an art auction will be held, and locally designed sweatshirts and T-shirts will be available to commemorate this year’s event.

This contest has a place for supporters of any skill level. Surfers can participate in “Wet, Wild, Whatever!” — a category that allows inclusion however it suits them best.

“People come and they dress up in themes,” Cardona said. “So even if you’re not a huge surfer, you can ride a raft, you can boogie board, you can do anything.”
