About the Show
Stop the presses! Gateway Playhouse brings Disney's electrifying Broadway hit to Long Island, and it's every bit as powerful as you've heard. Newsies tells the rousing true story of the 1899 newsboy strike, when scrappy young newspaper sellers took on publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearstโand won.
Based on the 1992 Disney film, the stage adaptation exploded onto Broadway in 2012 with jaw-dropping choreography, soaring musical numbers, and a story of courage that resonates as strongly today as it did 125 years ago. Songs like "Seize the Day" and "Carrying the Banner" have become modern musical theater classics.
Gateway's production features a cast of 25 incredible local and regional performers, including several Broadway veterans, under the direction of Tony-nominated director Michael Lichtefeld. The athletic choreographyโfeaturing flips, tumbles, and gravity-defying stuntsโwill leave audiences breathless, while the story of young people standing up against injustice will leave you inspired.
Perfect for families with kids 8+, theater lovers, and anyone who believes in the power of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. This is Long Island community theater at its absolute best.
