It was a record-breaking week for Suffolk County high school athletics, with student-athletes from Walt Whitman, John Glenn, and Bay Shore leading the charge in winter county championships.

At the Suffolk County Indoor Track Championships, Walt Whitman senior Maya Thompson shattered the county record in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:29.84, breaking a mark that had stood since 2018. Thompson, committed to Princeton, called it "the perfect way to end my high school career."

John Glenn's wrestling program captured their third straight county title, led by brothers Marcus and David Chen, who both won individual championships in their weight classes. Coach Tony Russo credited the team's summer training program for their dominance.

Meanwhile, Bay Shore's boys basketball team completed an undefeated regular season, clinching the League II title with a 78-65 victory over Brentwood. Junior point guard Isaiah Williams scored 34 points, earning League MVP honors.

In swimming, the Northport-East Northport boys team set three relay records en route to the Division I championship. Their 400-meter freestyle relay finished in 3:08.22, the fastest time in county history.

State championships begin next month, with Suffolk athletes expected to compete strongly across all sports.
